    Luis Manuel Diaz was pictured at the Etihad Stadium ahead of kick-off in the game between his son's Liverpool team and the reigning European and English champions.

    His visit to England to see his son in action comes weeks after the National Liberation Army (ELN) released him to authorities in Colombia. Luis Manuel was kidnapped along with his wife, who was released hours later, sparking a massive operation by police and military to find him. The authorities managed to negotiate his release after almost two weeks and he was soon reunited with his family and neighbours, eventually seeing his son again when he returned to Colombia to link up with the national team.

    Saturday's game is not the first time he has been able to see Luis in action after the emotional ordeal. Diaz senior was in attendance when his son scored twice to inspire Colombia to an incredible comeback win against Brazil in World Cup qualifying. The winger was not named in the starting XI for the weekend's with City match but was on the bench.
